The Philosophy of Indian Cuisine

The indian subcontinent became host to a melting pot of cultures, ideologies and beliefs dating back from some 2 million years ago.The Aryans, Turks, Greeks, Romans,Chinese, Mongols and Persians are just to name a few of the settlers or invaders. The last of these settlers were the British who became commonly known as the British Raj.Though indian cuisine developed due to these external influences, the backbone to its development has been Ayurveda an ancient body of knowledge on health that dates back to approximately 1000 BC. Ayur in Sanskrit meaning life and Veda meaning knowledge is concerned with the maintenance of a long and healthy life. Ayurveda understands properties and actions of food differently then western science and stipulates that diseases should be treated with food first and medication later.

He alone, can remain healthy, who regulates his diet, maintains regular exercise and recreation and can control his sensual pleasures, who is just , truthful and forgiving

We do not claim to be Ayurvedic pundits nor practitioners but one thing is certain, the recipes we use in this restaurant have been handed down from many generations and these did certainly evolve from Ayurvedic influences. Our presentations, as we prefer to call our dishes, are a combination of subtle tastes. Characteristics of fragrant, pungent and aromatic spices are brought to a fine balance to create the dishes we present.

To the best of our knowledge our recipes are free from Genetically Modified (GM) Food Products and this is a policy we seek to persue on an on going basis. We at the Indian Diner take pride in maintaining the quality of the cuisine we produce.

Over the years, the restaurant has invested much time in intensive recipe research and spice tests to develop and establish spice mixes, blends and methods that can be duplicated. Our food preparation and service system for each individual dish is standardised to ensure that each dish produced is not better than the previous attempt but just as good. We are probably the only Indian restaurant in the UK having a diverse menu with standardised recipes. In fact, we are told that, we are immune to chef changes and this reputation of consistency the restaurant has maintained for the last decade.

We hope you will have great joy in selecting dishes of your choice from our compilation of dishes from all regions of India including many from important epochs of history.

Thank you for choosing to order from our restaurant.

Bon Apetit,

Manager
